Annual review on central government debt management published  (2016-03-09)

The State Treasury has published its annual review on central government debt management.

The review focuses on central government debt management in 2015, providing an overview of the funding activities, cash management and the state of the Finnish economy.

In 2015, the central government gross borrowing amounted to EUR 15.9 billion, of which 10.8 billion was long-term issuance and the rest short-term borrowing.

“The Republic of Finland fared well in executing its issuance programme in 2015. This year, we will continue our well-known strategy of issuing two new euro-denominated benchmark bonds,” Director of Finance Teppo Koivisto says.

Guest authors in the review are Tuomas Välimäki, Head of Monetary Policy and Reasearch at the Bank of Finland, and Mikko Spolander, Director of the Stability Unit at the Ministry of Finance.

Välimäki writes about the monetary policy instruments and the expanded asset purchase programme of the European Central Bank. Spolander focuses on Finland’s current economic situation and the government’s economic policy.
